“He was a visionary designer who made every architect re-assess his or her own philosophy and style. His landforms, design angles and often intimidating visuals transformed professional golf, perhaps like no other architect before him. He challenged Tour players and made them think about each shot, which often led to ‘doubt’ and poor execution.” “There are so many highlights of my dad’s career,” says P.B. Dye. “Our family is very blessed. The game of golf has been very good to my family. Because of my mom and dad, golf has become part of my life. “I’ve always said that Pete is my dad, but I have shared him with a lot of other people. All those people who have worked with him—that is his impact on golf. The Bobby Weeds, Bill Coores, all of these guys have worked with my dad, and learned from him…that’s the legacy.” • The 2017 ASGCA Annual Meeting in Jupiter, Florida, saw Pete and Alice Dye joined by some of the many golf course architects they have influenced.
