International Cruise & Ferry Review 44 Upfront SHIP OF THE YEAR AWARDS henever a new cruise ship or passenger ferry hits the waves for the first time, it generates great excitement, both within the marine industry and the consumer travel world. From restaurants and bars, to swimming pools, spas and theatres, every new vessel has something to delight passengers. Some ships, however, truly stand out from the rest and set new standards for the entire passenger shipping industry. What is it that makes these vessels innovative? Is it the first-of-a-kind onboard activities? Is it the unique venues and contemporary interior designs? Or is it the fact that it has LNG engines, hybrid propulsion systems and various green technologies to increase its operational efficiency, minimise fuel consumption and lower emissions? To find out, ICFR has created its first-ever Ship of the Year awards. We’re inviting our valued readers to help us identify which cruise ships and passenger ferries have raised the bar when it comes to construction and design, onboard offerings and amenities, and environmental stewardship since debuting in 2019.
