African Development Bank - Advancing Climate Action and Green Growth in Africa

18 African Development Bank — Advancing Climate Change Action and Green Growth in Africa In summary, key regional climate change risks for Africa include shifts in biome distribution, loss of coral reefs, reduced crop productivity, adverse effects on livestock, vector- and waterborne diseases, undernutrition, and migration; and the levels of these risks are medium-to-high, given the continent’s pronounced adaptation deficit. What is even more sobering is that the IPCC indicates that even under hypothetically high levels of future adaptation in Africa, there could be very high levels of all climate change risks for African countries. Our commitment to climate action and green growth The Bank’s commitment to climate change action manifests internally through its institutional systems, and externally through its support to regional member countries (RMCs) and collaborative efforts with development partners. Within the Bank, the Climate Change and Green Growth Department (PECG) has, over the past years, spearheaded the Bank’s efforts on climate change mainstreaming and climate finance by Farmers are the beneficiaries of a Crop Production and Marketing Project In 2020, 63% of the Bank’s climate finance was allocated to climate adaptation and 37% to mitigation
