Thames Freeport - Britain's Trading Future

[ 23 ] The Port of London Authority (PLA) looks after the UK’s busiest waterways and centre of terminal operations. Some 50 million tonnes of goods are traded through the port annually, sustaining essential supply chains. Operations on the river touch the lives of many millions of people across London and the South East daily, through the food they eat, the fuel they use and the products they buy. The Thames Freeport is set to add further to this established centre of marine, transport and manufacturing expertise. The programme will deliver innovation, urban logistics transformation and progressively lower carbon and then net zero solutions. “Thames Freeport is the right solution in the right place at a time of transformative change,” says PLA chief executive, Robin Mortimer. “A wave of technological innovation is building and shortly to break, sustaining the drive towards a net zero carbon economy. The partners in the Freeport, drawing together existing freeports expertise, alongside logistics firepower and manufacturing excellence at Ford will be ideally placed to play a role in this.” Port of London Authority
