Celebrating 25 Years of Action for Biodiversity
[ ] 14 Conference; two notable results were achieved —The Bahamas developed a Conference Manual that outlined national protocols and procedures for planning future similar conferences; and The Bahamas Environment, Science and Technology (BEST) Commission was appointed to carry forward the Rio Conventions and the Decisions taken at COP-1. On the occasion of celebrating CBD’s 25th anniversary, I endorse the sentiments of former UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, that biodiversity is “essential for the welfare of current and future generations”. The Bahamas, as one of the Small Island Developing States (SIDS), committed itself at COP-1 and continues to advance this commitment. I am pleased to wish the organization, its members individually, and its management and staff continued relevance and success. Her Excellency Dame Ivy Dumont Governor-General of the Bahamas (2002–2005)
