Celebrating 25 Years of Action for Biodiversity

[ ] 33 The GEF Targeting the main causes of biodiversity loss The Global Environment Facility (GEF) provides financial resources for developing countries and countries with economies in transition to implement the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Through its current strategic plan, the GEF aims to help maintain globally significant biodiversity and the ecosystem goods and services that it provides to society. To date, the GEF has invested over US$ 4.6 billion to conserve and sustainably use global biodiversity. This investment has leveraged over US$ 12 billion in additional funds, supporting 1,692 projects in more than 155 countries. A few of these projects are highlighted in the following pages.
