1 4 6 Lenac Shipyard Rijeka, Croatia Marella Cruises’ Marella Dream entered the Lenac Shipyard on 9 January 2020 for a six-week ‘class renewal’ project. The ship’s technical manager, COLUMBIA Cruise Services, supervised the drydock, which involved standard technical maintenance and repair works. The renewal efforts also included cabin and bathroom refurbishments, carpet and teak deck replacements, and the installation of a ballast water treatment system. Damen Shiprepair, Brest, France and Amsterdam, the Netherlands Damen Shiprepair will carry out upgrades and enhancements worth US$110 million to Royal Caribbean International’s Explorer of the Seas between March and April 2020. As part of the cruise line’s Royal Amplified programme, Damen will refit the ship with two Perfect Storm water slides, upgrade the pool area with hammocks and a poolside bar called The Lime & Coconut, add new dining venues such as Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen and incorporate new entertainment offerings, including glow-in-the-dark laser tag. Damen also completed a triple cruise ship maintenance and repair programme on Cruise & Maritime Voyages’ Magellan, Marco Polo and Astor in December 2019. The first to dock at the Amsterdam shipyard was the 222-metre-long Magellan for cleaning, inspections, engine repairs, an overhaul of the bow and stern thrusters and life raft servicing. Two days after Magellan’s arrival, Damen began carrying out similar maintenance work on the 176-metre-long Marco Polo. Astor then made her way to the dock for a shorter stint for pipe and stern tube renewals, engine intercooler repairs and other maintenance. In addition, the shipyard completely cleaned and repainted the exteriors of Magellan and Marco Polo ahead of their entry into the French cruise market. Chantier Naval de Marseille Marseille, France Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Spirit made her way to Chantier Naval de Marseille, France for renovations in January 2020. Prior to the ship repositioning to China in March 2020, Fincantieri subsidiary Marine Interiors completed a stern-to-stern makeover at the shipyard, updating staterooms, replacing the onboard dining options with signature Norwegian venues such as Spinnakers Lounge and the adult-only Spice H2O, and expanding the spa and gym. Norwegian Spirit was the last of the line’s vessels to be enhanced as part of its Norwegian Edge programme. REFIT REPORT
