Cruise and Ferry Review - Summer/Spring 2020
1 9 6 Cruise Ship Interiors Expo Europe After the success of Cruise Ship Interiors Expo America, the inaugural European edition of the event took place in Barcelona, Spain in December 2019. CFR reports back from the two days of informative discussions CS IE HIGHL IGHTS E lite Exhibitions held its first- ever Cruise Ship Interiors Expo (CSIE) Europe event in Barcelona, Spain on 5-6 December 2019. Just like the inaugural CSI America event in Miami, Florida in June 2019, the CSIE event offered key players in the cruise interior design industry the chance to showcase their products and hear the latest insights on major industry topics and market trends. Kicking off the event was the first conference session, titled ‘Leaders’ Debate – Pillars of Design’. Featuring speakers from MSC Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line and Tillberg Design of Sweden, the discussion explored the differentiation of brands through interiors and the impacts of demographics on design. After lunch, a session on the sustainability of cruise interiors highlighted the wastage that occurs during dry docks, before Bolidt’s director Jacco van Overbeek joined a Q&A session where he suggested that in the future interiors could be designed to collect data on location or footfall. At CSIE, Magicman was able to meet many old acquaintances that it has worked with over the years, as well as new potential suppliers and cruise personnel. I found the forum on sustainability hosted by My Nguyen, director of interior design and operations at Holland America Group, very thought provoking. Mark Henderson, CEO of Magicman Group
