Cruise and Ferry Review - Summer/Spring 2020

1 9 7 The second day of talks began with a session concerning ‘Specifications & Procurement Processes.’ Cruise executives discussed how suppliers could improve their chances of getting involved with cruise companies, emphasising the need for an international supply and durable design. This was followed by a consideration of the ‘River Cruise Experience’, with speakers stressing the importance of space management and flexibility on a small ship. This contrasted with the discussion on the needs of the expedition market, in which the sector’s mix of minimalism and luxury was emphasised. The final session of the event looked ahead to the ‘Future Global Outlook’ of the sector, with the panel predicting that sustainability and the growth of niche markets would feature heavily in the coming years. The next CSIE event will take place from 2-3 December 2020 in London, UK. CFR During a dinner at CSIE, CFR ’s executive editor Jon Ingleton asked 17 members of the advisory board to sketch designs for chairs that could be used onboard cruise ships or passenger ferries. Serbia-based company DSE Visualisation took these sketches and created photorealistic rendering of each chair and CFR will be revealing the designs via its Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter pages throughout April, asking followers to guess who designed which chair. The full collection will be displayed in its entirety in the Cruise & Ferry Interiors VIP Lounge at Cruise Ship Interiors Expo America in Miami from 2-3 September 2020. A CSIE design challenge
