Photo: Stena Line Stena Line has opened a new ferry route between Grenaa in Denmark and Halmstad in Sweden, marking the occasion with inauguration ceremonies in both ports on 1 February. Denmark’s transport minister, Benny Engelbrecht, joined passengers on Stena Nautica as the ferry made its first crossing from Grenaa. After her four hour and 35-minute crossing, the vessel was welcomed into Halmstad by around 8,000 people, including Stena Line’s owner and CEO Dan Sten Olsson. Stena Nautica will now offer two sailings on the route per day, with the operator aiming to double passenger and freight volumes within the next five years. Renderings show that the vessels will have a double-ended design with two navigation bridges and a new hull shape never before seen on a passenger ferry in the English Channel.
