Cruise and Ferry Review - Summer/Spring 2020
Bordeaux to implement environmental charter The City of Bordeaux, Bordeaux pilots, the Port of Bordeaux and several cruise companies have signed a new environmental charter, committing to six important sustainability initiatives for 2020. The Port of the Moon quay in Bordeaux city centre will attract a record 53 ships during the 2020 season. Consequently, cruise sector stakeholders in Bordeaux have committed to reducing pollution of the air and estuary and limiting noise during calls. Stakeholders will also work with pilots to optimise navigation procedures during channelling and upon arrival in the city centre to reduce air emissions. The cruise ships have agreed to follow their recommendations, while also encouraging an environmentally friendly approach by their onshore partners. This will enable Bordeaux to continue developing its cruise industry, while preserving the city centre. MARKETWATCH
