Cruise and Ferry Review - Summer/Spring 2020
3 8 MARKETWATCH Following an increased number of cruise calls and the relocation of the cargo terminal to the eastern side of the port, Haifa Port in Israel has approved a plan to convert 450 metres of cargo terminal space into a cruise terminal with facilities to berth the largest cruise ships. The new pier will allow the port to accommodate at least four ships and will be at the foot of the Baha’i Gardens, close to downtown Haifa. Seaport The Hague–Scheveningen is now open for cruise calls from small ships up to 162 metres in length with a draught of 7.5 metres. Located in The Hague on the west coast of the Netherlands, the port has direct, deep water access to the North Sea, which allows ships to enter and leave swiftly. Passengers can catch the bus from the quay to join a range of shore excursions in The Hague, including a visit to the historical city centre and Mauritshuis, home of world-famous paintings by the Dutch Masters. Cruise lines can also collaborate with the port’s partners to create special onshore programmes. Port of Dover will attend the Seatrade Cruise Global conference in Miami in 2020, exhibiting at its booth made from waste plastic collected from the world’s oceans and beaches during 2018. The booth remains in Miami and will be used for the next three to four years. At the end of its life, it can be recycled again to create a new stand.
