5 2 Expansion at Liferaft Systems Australia Manufacturer Roxtec has developed a new SPM seal for passenger ship operators to use when running pipes through a fire-proof or watertight bulkhead. After the pipe is pushed into a circular hole, the seal slides forward to hold it in place with a metal and rubber sandwich. This removes the need to weld the pipe to the bulkhead itself, significantly reducing the time taken for installation, maintenance and repairs at sea. Roxtec launches new SPM seal Liferaft Systems Australia (LSA) has expanded its life raft production facility in Hobart, Australia. The expansion increases production capacity and operational efficiencies by up to 30%, enabling LSA to better serve existing customers and enter new market sectors. Marine Components International to distribute fire dampers Marine Components International has secured the distribution rights for BSB Engineering’s A60 rated fire dampers, which are used to prevent the spread of fire within ventilation ducts onboard passenger ships. BSB can produce custom fire dampers within 10 days, in either marine grade stainless or galvanised steel. A60 fire dampers are a mandatory requirement on all vessels over 500gt that comply with the Safety of Life at Sea convention.
