Cruise and Ferry Review - Summer/Spring 2020
6 3 Viking Einar Named after the Norse Earl of Orkney, Viking River Cruises’ Viking Einar (pictured here alongside Viking Sigrun, one of its six sister ships) showcases innovative engineering and streamlined Scandinavian design and elegance. Her 95 outside cabins provide varying levels of size and luxury, including nine onboard suites which each have two full- size rooms, a veranda and French balcony. Viking Einar entered service in March 2019 and has since been offering her passengers a range of onboard highlights. These include a sun deck, a putting green, a walking track, a library, a shop, a restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows, and an all-weather indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace with retractable floor- to-ceiling glass doors. The vessel also has an organic herb garden, solar panels and energy-efficient hybrid engines. Viking revolutionised river cruising with the launch of our state-of-the-art Viking Longships which, since their introduction in 2012, now make up 80% of our 79-strong river fleet. We are very proud that one of the newest, Viking Einar, has been named river cruise Ship of the Year by readers of CFR. She has been custom built to get guests closer to each destination and, like all our Longships, offers the largest suites on Europe’s rivers and unprecedented levels of comfort.
