Cruise and Ferry Review - Summer/Spring 2020

6 5 Emerald Harmony Avalon Envision Emerald Waterways’ new Star-Ship began cruising on the Mekong in Southeast Asia in August 2019. Built at the 76 Shipyard Company in Vietnam, the vessel was specially designed to sail into the centre of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Emerald Harmony’s suites and staterooms fuse Asian style with contemporary design. In addition, because the ship only accommodates 84 passengers, they are very spacious. Public spaces include a sun and pool deck, a wellness area, the Horizon Bar & Lounge and Reflections restaurant, which offers everything from buffet breakfasts to five-course à la carte dining and, exclusive to Emerald Harmony, the Lotus Lounge. She’s also the first Star-Ship without single- use plastic. After leaving the Netherlands-based Den-Breejen Shipyard, Avalon Waterways’ Avalon Envision began sailing in April 2019 on the Danube. The 135-metre river cruise ship features two full suite decks with 200-square-foot rooms aimed at giving guests a more intimate cruise experience with more space per person. Wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling sliding windows open to become French balconies, extending cabins past the walls of the ship. The 166 passengers can take advantage of a range of amenities including wi-fi access, an expansive fitness centre, an Adventure Center for bikes and active gear, an Observation Lounge and a spacious Sky Deck with whirlpool and deck games.
