Cruise and Ferry Review - Summer/Spring 2020
6 7 Alfred Designed by UK-based marine architecture firm BMT Nigel Gee and built at the Strategic Marine shipyard in Vung Tao, Vietnam, Pentland Ferries’ Alfred made the long journey to Scotland in summer 2019. The 85-metre-long catamaran started service in November and, according to Pentland Ferries, is the greenest ferry of its kind, using over 60% less fuel than similar vessels in the region. Since its introduction, Pentland has become the first UK ferry operator to receive a Green Tourism Award. Alfred has capacity for 430 passengers and 98 cars and offers an indoor sun deck lounge in addition to five other seating areas, and a cafe. We are absolutely delighted that Alfred has been voted Ship of the Year 2020 in the ferry category. We are so grateful to all our loyal customers for voting for us and, of course, for their continued support. The company’s founding family is very proud of our new environmentally friendly ship and the team that ensures we deliver a winning service. Thank you to everyone.
