Shaping new frontiers for development GVC-based MCPS 3-Year Plans: u 2019 — Gabon, Maldives, Morocco, Turkey u 2020 — G uinea, Indonesia, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal u 2021 — A fghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Guyana, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Sierra Leone, Suriname, Uganda, Yemen, Palestine u 2022 — A lbania, Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Mauritania, Mozambique, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Togo, UAE u 2023 — C ameroon, Djibouti, Jordan, Oman, Turkmenistan Creating impact the smart way Some of the projects that are a part of the 2021 work programme are as follows: u Cotonou storm water drainage project, Benin: The objectives are to reduce floods causing damage to shoreline dwellers and infrastructure and to reduce stagnant water in the city of Cotonou u Construction of regional integration roads project, Sierra Leone: The proposed roads are links of national and regional importance between Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia u Strengthening primary healthcare, Chad: The project aims to reduce the mortality and morbidity rates of the most vulnerable groups, especially women and children I sDB’s new business model is achieving significant results in making markets work for development, with a range of impactful initiatives planned between 2021 and 2023 This concept of making markets work for development necessitated engaging with MCs via a different modality and required a shift in the approach of how the MCPS was prepared Hence, the MCPS 2 0 was designed to reflect this new approach, which was different from the classical way of developing the MCPS, that was based on standalone projects The MCPS documents for Gabon and Maldives have been completed, whereas five new MCPSs were initiated in 2020 and thirteen MCPSs will be initiated in 2021 With the objective of ensuring IsDB’s pro-active responsiveness to the growing macro-economic challenges of MCs, a fast-track MCPS completion process is in progress that will ensure timely completion of these documents The yearly breakdown of the GVC-based MCPS is shared below: Doing business differently Many MCs have expressed interest in implementing IsDB’s new business model and the next three years will see significant progress in this regard SDGs [ 252 ]
